Ace of the Diamond: The Best in Show

 With the upcoming adaptation of Ace of the Diamond Act II's Second Season, I've been thinking about how this series has stood so tall within the sports genre. This thought came off of my recent viewing of Oblivion Battery. Mainly because they're both about Baseball, but also because they both handle their storytelling quite well. With Oblivion Battery, you have a more individualized story revolving around a team of misfits that featured top High School Baseball players. Whereas AOTD featured a top level High School and the structures within that make the machine run. So, Oblivion Battery ended up feeling like the product of modern sports anime/manga, while AOTD definitely harkened back to its older contemporaries. And this might just be more of a lack of knowledge on these types of sports series, but I have never really seen anything like AOTD before. Champion Chicago

Over the past couple of months, I have been looking at what Chicago sport fans say about their players, teams, and management through different avenues such as articles, social media, and other places on the internet. What it tells me is that there is a vocal subsection that is invested in ways that seem unbelievable. I try to give these "passionate" fans the benefit of the doubt. They are embroiled in the twists and turns that come with being a sports fan, but then I see the sense of community that sport promotes not feeding into the goodwill of people. It is feeding into the panic and despair that feeds into paranoia and negativity. There was the incident from 2003 with Steve Bartman that should have called for a reflection of sports fans everywhere and not just Chicago Cubs fans.
