One Piece Week 3: Yonko, Shichibukai, and Cipher Pol

Welcome back humans, to week three of the the blog that keeps on giving. Last week we discussed the Celestial Dragons, Marines, and the Revolutionary. But this week brings out more pirate and World Government information. So, on deck is going to be the Yonko.

Yonko
In One Piece, the Yonko (Four Emperors) are the most powerful pirate captains and hold enopugh power to keep the Marines and World Governement at bay. They even garner enough power to be able to wage war against the Marines and World Government if they feel it is needed. The Yonko include Shanks of the Red Hair Pirates, Kaido of the Beast Pirates, Charlotte Linlin of the Big Mom Pirates, and Marshall D. Teach of the Blackbeard Pirates. Each Yonko could make a strong case for the strongest of the sea, but they avoid each other for the most part because that could lead to heavy casualties on both sides. One of the things that each Yonko shares is that they have all met Luffy in some capacity. Out of four, only Shanks likes Luffy because of the past they share. What makes the Yonko siginificant is that they are the gatekeepers, in a sense, to Luffy's journey to becoming Pirate King. Oddly enough, Shanks is the most mysterious character out of them all as his power seems greater in terms of physical and political. Alas, I would like to go into more detail on what makes the Yonko so overwhelming, but that would lead into heavy spoilers and the journey is the best part. Moving on, we got the Shichibukai.

Shichibukai
The Shichibukai (Seven Warlords of the Sea) are pirates that have been granted immunity from the Marines, but are now working for the World Government. There has not been much information about what this entails exactly, but it is known that they are required to fight alongside the Marines in battle. This means that the Marines are wary and entrusting of them while other pirates are in the same boat calling them "Government Dogs" in some cases. This immunity, mentioned earlier, means that their previous bounty is frozen until they leave or are stripped of their privileges. The current Shichibukai include Dracule Mihawk, Boa Hancock, Buggy the Clown, Bartholomew Kuma, and Edward Weevil. What makes the Shichibukai unique aside from their benefits is that they are recognized as threats that need to be contained, but are not immune to abusing their privileges. Although the Shichibukai are not on par with the Yonko in terms of strength, they are still a formidable force. Another note to add is the Shichibukai do not interact often, so cooperation is rare amongst them. Finally, we get to the secret organization known as Cipher Pol.

Cipher Pol
Cipher Pol is a secret government organization that deals in gathering intelligence for the higher up like the Gorosei. There are eight official sectors that are numbered one through eight with two secret groups that work directly under the World Government. Aside from gathering intelligence, Cipher Pol will detain pirates or people that are deemed a threat to the World Government. In some cases, they will destroy entire islands in order to protect the order established and going so far as covering up information in newspapers that is deemed hazardous for their political climate. In One Piece, Cipher Pol is not known to the general public for the most part, especially the secret groups, but their presence is definitely felt when they are introduced. Seeing as the enemy in One Piece is the World Government, one of my personal favorites comes from Cipher Pol because they serve justice and not their own interests. This contrast to the Straw Hats is one of the defining traits that make the Cipher Pol and the World Government so fascinating when freedom is questioned along with free will.

Last Note
This week looked at more strong groups that define and shape the world with their presence in the public eye as well as privately. And be wary of actions because they could lead all the way to the top. Next week is still a mystery, so come back to find out what happens in Week Four.
