Go Support Games Done Quick

My post this time around is to go support Games Done Quick if you are reading this the week it is happening. Sadly, due to the schedule I have made for these posts, I cannot do a recap like I did with Awesome Games Done Quick earlier in the year. Seeing as we are on day three of the event, there is still plenty of time.

There have already been entertaining runs like the Banjo-Kazooie 100% No FFM that was ran by duck or the Bloodstained block that featured runs from The Blacktastic and DanTheVP with the bonus run of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night being ran by Dr4gonBlitz that capped the block off. Different skill points in speed tech being shown off across these games with engaging commentary to boot.

There is no doubt that the rest of the week will feature some absolutely insane games that I have never seen before, much like every GDQ event. So, I will have the runs playing in the background for the whole week like I always do, shifting focus for my most anticipated speed games when need be. If I miss a run, there will be the VODs that go up at the end of the event that are always available because it is near impossible to catch every run you want to check out in this seven day timespan and that's okay.

In favor of not being able to give a full post run-down, I will highlight some runs that have my interest. The first game that I see on the schedule that has piqued my interest is The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Blitz Randomizer that will be ran by spikevegeta. While I don't know what a Blitz Randomizer is, I do know that Zelda randomizer's are insanely fun and good for casual viewership. There's the inherent speedrunning tech of the game balled up in the chaos of randomness. So, something as simple as a sword in the game can be obtained immediately, at the end of the game, or anywhere in between. You just never know and that is what makes these runs special. Not to mention the added bonus of  spikevegeta running the game as he is a staple of the GDQ events and is always entertaining. The run is slated for Wednesday at 9 P.M. central standard time.

The Majora's Mask item featured in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64.
The next run in my sights is the Mega Man 6 Any% 2 players 1 controller that will be ran by DarkTerrex and Ppotdot1. It is exactly as it sounds. A speedrun done by two players operating a single controller. This one is going to be played on the NES, so no analog stick of any kind. A truly intriguing way to play a difficult and punishing platformer. Mega Man players are a different breed though. Some of the most skilled maneuvers being performed in runs like these. The run is scheduled for Thursday at 5 P.M. central standard time.

Mega Man 6 Boss Select Screen. All of the robot masters and Mega Man himself appear and have their names appear below their respective character portraits.
This next run is one that caught my eye immediately when I was looking through the schedule the first time. Kaizo Monkey Ball is the name and pain is most definitely the point of this game. The Kaizo Monkey Ball Story Mode run will be performed by IkeSMB on the Nintendo Wii. Vanilla Monkey Ball speedruns are already feats of intense skill, so I can only imagine Kaizo Monkey Ball is just the game turned up to eleven. Kaizo versions of games are extremely difficult and tight on timing and space within there respective games. Kaizo projects are developed by fans who want that extra bite, with Super Mario and Metroid being prime examples. So, I can only expect the most brutal level design in a game series that crushes its players at a basic level. A definite must see indeed. The run is schedule for Friday at 9:15 P.M. central standard time.

Character render for AiAi from Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD. The best Monkey Dad in the world.
The last run that I want to highlight is the last Bonus Game at SGDQ this year. Bonus games get funded through donations for those that don't know. It is sure to be a doozy. That run is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Any% Blindfolded with Bubzia taking us through Hyrule. It will be a shame if the game doesn't get funded because blindfold runs are so insanely entertaining. The amount of precision and knowhow that goes into simply knowing where one is at all times and even reorienting oneself when that focus breaks is remarkable. It is easily the thing I am looking forward to the most just based off the need to see some high-level maneuvering that is entirely dependent on the memory of the player. The run is scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 A.M. central standard time.

Key art for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Link gazes at Hyrule longingly with sword in hand. The title of the game is featured prominently adjacent to the hero.
That's all for my Games Done Quick hype piece. Go watch people that are good at games and will beat them in a time that is most likely faster than what you could do. Trans Rights are Human Rights and Fuck Cancer.
